Producing an Interview for RE: TV and the Terra Carta Initiative

Produced and filmed in Seattle for Atomized Studios and RE:TV’s coverage of King Charles III’s Sustainable Markets Initiative, 2022.
In spring 2022, Atomized Studios hired Kaifilms to produce and film a Seattle interview for an RE project connected to the Terra Carta initiative.
Our interview subject was Sally Fouts, Global Leader of The Climate Pledge at Amazon. The Climate Pledge brings companies together around a commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040—ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement.
The Cornerstone of the Story
A strong interview is often the cornerstone of a documentary, commercial, or branded film. Producing one involves much more than arriving with a camera.
For this shoot, I managed the Seattle production while also serving as cinematographer. I assembled the crew, planned the schedule, developed the visual approach, and made sure the camera, lighting, and sound worked together.
Most importantly, my job was to create an environment where Sally could feel comfortable, speak naturally, and communicate a complex global mission in a clear and personal way.
Sally’s PR representative joined us to help shape the conversation and ensure we covered the most important points. The collaboration worked beautifully. We started ahead of schedule, captured additional takes for safety, and finished earlier than expected.
There was some added pressure knowing our work was contributing to an international project connected to such important environmental initiatives. Once the lights were set, the cameras were ready, and the interview began, everything came together.
Creating Space for Meaningful Conversations
Producing interviews has become one of the foundations of my work. It combines preparation, collaboration, visual storytelling, and the ability to respond to what is happening in the room.
When everything works properly, the equipment fades into the background and a real person begins telling a meaningful story. That is the moment I am always working toward.
